ONLINE AUDITIONS INFORMATION & FAQs


WHO CAN UPLOAD A VIDEO? While eligibility for 'SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: The Next Generation' is limited to dancers no younger than 9 as of April 1, 2016 or older than 13 years of age on the first day they register for auditions, videos may only be uploaded by a minor’s parent or guardian who is at least eighteen (18) years of age. Contestant’s parent or guardian should register as the “User” and complete all the required information, and upload the audition video. If you are a minor, Contestant will not be able to register as a User. Additional eligibility requirements can be found in the Terms and Conditions.

AM I ALLOWED TO UPLOAD A PRE-EXISTING VIDEO? Yes, a User may upload a pre-existing video of Contestant’s audition, or provide a YouTube link, as long as the pre-existing video meets all of the other requirements for an Audition Video.

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO INCLUDE ON MY AUDITION VIDEO? On the Online Audition Website, User must answer a series of questions (video and text) and then record Contestant’s dancing performance. Please be sure to include Contestant’s name!

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF CONTESTANT IS SELECTED? The time period to submit an online audition starts at 12:00AM (PT) on January 25, 2016 and ends at 11:59PM (PT) on March 1, 2016. If Contestant is selected, a SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE® producer will contact User via phone or email to schedule a time for an in-person audition.

HOW WILL I FIND OUT IF CONTESTANT IS SELECTED? If Contestant is selected to move forward to a callback, User will be contacted by a SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE ® producer via phone or email. When submitting an audition video, User will be asked to provide contact information. Please double check that all of the contact details are accurate.

CAN A CONTESTANT AUDITION AT AN OPEN CALL DATE IN ADDITION TO ONLINE? Yes, if a User submitted an online audition video for a contestant but that contestant does not advance to an in-person audition, that contestant is welcome to attend an open call audition. Additional information is on fox.com/dance.

WHAT IF CONTESTANT IS SELECTED? If Contestant is selected to move forward to a callback, User will be contacted by a SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE® producer via phone or email. User, on behalf of themselves and Contestant will be required to provide or arrange for travel to an audition callback. User, as parent or legal guardian, must accompany Contestant to the audition callback and must also arrange for his/her own travel as well.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I SUBMIT A VIDEO? If User has already submitted an Audition Video for 'SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: The Next Generation', User cannot submit another Audition Video.

HOW LONG SHOULD A PERFORMANCE BE? It is up to User and Contestant to decide how short or long a dancing performance will be so long as the video is no larger than the 10MB limit.

CAN A CONTESTANT AUDITION ONLINE WITH A FRIEND? Contestant must perform alone in an audition video. Please encourage any dancer friends to post their own auditions as well!

CAN I MODIFY A VIDEO? An Audition Video may not have any post-production enhancements/modifications or be digitally enhanced or distorted. Make sure the frame for filming an audition is wide, so the whole dance makes it on video!

I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE: "EMAIL ADDRESS ALREADY EXISTS": This happens when a user is already registered with their email address but tries to register again. Simply enter the system using the Sign In window instead of Register.

I AM ALREADY REGISTERED IN THE SYSTEM, BUT WHEN I TRY TO SIGN IN I GET THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE: "INCORRECT EMAIL OR PASSWORD": This can happen for three possible reasons:
1. You may have first logged in using Facebook. In such case, simply click on Sign In with Facebook.
2. If you did not log in using Facebook, you may have the wrong password. Simply click on “Forgot My Password” and a new password will be sent to your email address.
3. You may have used a different email address or made a mistake while typing it when you first registering to the system. In such case, contact support and provide your Applicant ID.

I RECEIVED A MESSAGE TELLING ME THAT MY SESSION HAS EXPIRED, OR THAT MY BROWSER BLOCKS COOKIES: A session expires after several hours of inactivity. Simply sign in again using the Sign In window. If it happens again after you signed in, make sure that cookies are enabled in your browser.

WHAT BROWSERS CAN I USE TO REGISTER? The registration system works best on Chrome browser. It also supports Firefox (version 3.5 and newer) and Internet Explorer (version 10 and newer).

I AM CLICKING ON NEXT TO GO TO THE NEXT STEP, BUT THE SYSTEM WON'T LET ME: The system allows progressing to the next step only after all mandatory questions (marked with a red asterisk) are answered. Scroll up to locate the missing answer – It will be marked with a red message, such as: “This field is mandatory.”

WHAT IS MY APPLICANT NUMBER (OR APPLICANT ID)? The Applicant ID (for example, 200-5-44333) is a unique number each applicant receives when first registering to the system. It is used to easily track an applicant on the admin system, or provide support to this applicant. Please note that the dashes between the numbers are important and should not be ignored. When contacting support, please provide your Applicant ID.

I HAVEN’T FINISHED ANSWERING ALL THE QUESTIONS. CAN I SAVE MY WORK AND CONTINUE LATER? Sure! Simply click on the Continue Later button and the system will save your work. You will be able to return to the system at any time and to complete registration, using the Sign In window. Use your email address and the password you chose, or if you first signed in using your Facebook account, click on Sign In with Facebook to sign in.

I AM TRYING TO UPLOAD PHOTOS BUT I GET THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE: "MAX FILE SIZE 4MB": Photo upload is limited to 2MB per image. To reduce the size of your photos, visit Microsoft Help.

MY PHOTOS ARE SMALLER THAN 4MB BUT I STILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE: Supported formats are common image formats: JPG, GIF or PNG. Please verify that the images you upload are in one of these formats.

I AM TRYING TO UPLOAD PHOTOS, BUT I DON’T SEE THE "BROWSE" BUTTON: You may be using Safari browser on an iPhone or an iPad. Currently, the Safari browser does not allow uploading files from the device. Please upload photos from another device or browser.

I AM TRYING TO UPLOAD A VIDEO BUT I GET THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE: "MAX FILE SIZE 10MB": Video upload is limited to 10MB per video. Please upload a smaller video, or use YouTube (if enabled in your registration) to upload larger videos.
